Target Information

SRC2 (steroid receptor coactivator 2), also known as nuclear receptor coactivator 2 (NCOA2 or TIF2), is a coactivator that assists nuclear hormone receptors in regulating gene expression.
Nuclear hormone receptors are conditional transcription factors involved in cell growth, development, and homeostasis.
They have three distinct domains:

1. N-terminal transcriptional activation domain
2. Central DNA-binding domain
3. C-terminal hormone-binding domain

Before hormone binding, steroid receptors remain inactive in a complex with heat-shock proteins. Upon hormone binding, they undergo conformational changes, dissociate from the inhibitory complex, and bind to DNA enhancer elements to regulate transcription.
Transcriptional coactivator proteins such as SRC2 are required to mediate transcription initiation after enhancer binding.
