Target Information
The TBX4 gene belongs to a conserved family of genes sharing a common DNA-binding domain known as the T-box. T-box genes encode transcription factors that regulate developmental processes. The human TBX4 gene is homologous to mouse Tbx4, which is closely linked to Tbx2 on mouse chromosome 11. Both TBX2 and TBX4 map to human chromosome 17. Expression studies in mouse and chicken indicate that Tbx4 is expressed in developing hindlimb but not in forelimb buds, suggesting its role in limb development and identity specification.
