Target Information
Islet, or insulinoma, amyloid polypeptide (Amylin) is commonly found in pancreatic islets of patients with type II diabetes mellitus or insulinoma. Although its role in diabetes development is recognized, a direct causative relationship remains under investigation. Amylin, similar to beta-amyloid (Abeta) in Alzheimer’s disease, can induce apoptotic cell death in certain cultured cells, which may contribute to type II diabetes pathogenesis.
