Background
This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif known as the F-box. The F-box proteins are part of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex SCFs (SKP1-cullin-F-box), which function in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
F-box proteins are classified into three types:
- Fbws: Contain WD-40 domains
- Fbls: Contain leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: Contain other protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The FBW1B protein belongs to the Fbws class and contains multiple WD40 repeats in addition to the F-box. This gene has at least 14 exons, and alternative splicing generates three transcript variants differing by the presence or absence of two alternate exons.
