BEST3는 BEST1, BEST2, BEST4를 포함하는 베스트로핀(anion channel) 패밀리에 속합니다. BEST1은 vitelliform macular dystrophy (VMD)와 관련된 유전자이며, BEST3는 고유한 3' 말단 구조를 가지는 막단백질입니다. 베스트로핀 단백질은 방향족 아미노산이 풍부한 보존된 RFP 모티프(arg-phe-pro)를 포함하며, 8개의 RFP-TM 도메인 인코딩 엑손 구조가 유사하게 유지되어 있습니다.
