Target Information
SOX17 (transcription factor SOX-17) belongs to the SRY-related HMB box family of transcription factors.
It acts as a transcription regulator that binds target promoter DNA and bends the DNA.
SOX17 binds to the sequences 5'-AACAAT-'3 or 5'-AACAAAG-'3, modulating transcriptional regulation via WNT3A and inhibiting Wnt signaling.
It promotes degradation of activated CTNNB1 and plays an essential role in embryonic development, including heart tube looping and definitive gut endoderm formation.
Mutations in the gene can cause vesicoureteral reflux.
