Target Information
Integrin alpha 4 (CD49d, ITGA4) is a member of the integrin alpha chain family. Integrins are heterodimeric membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta chains. The alpha4 chain associates with either beta1 or beta7, forming integrin alpha4beta1 and alpha4beta7 complexes. These complexes mediate cell adhesion via ligands such as MadCAM, VCAM, and fibronectin. MadCAM serves as the principal ligand for alpha4beta7, and HIV-1 envelope proteins can mimic MadCAM by binding to and signaling through integrin alpha4beta7, the gut mucosal homing receptor for peripheral T cells.
