Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Bcl-2 only when phosphorylated at Thr74.

Target Information

BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that functions to either inhibit or promote cell death. Members of the BCL-2 family dimerize to modulate apoptosis. Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2 to enhance its anti-apoptotic effect. Bax and Bak play critical roles in cytochrome c release from mitochondria, initiating apoptosis. Bax exerts a pro-apoptotic effect. Constitutive expression of BCL-2, such as translocation to the Ig heavy chain locus, is associated with follicular lymphoma. Most follicular lymphomas show high BCL-2 alpha expression in neoplastic germinal centers, while normal or hyperplastic centers are negative. Two transcript variants of BCL-2 differ in their C-terminal ends. Overexpression of BCL-2 is linked to cancers such as B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer.
