Target Information
Gabrg1 encodes a protein that belongs to the ligand-gated ionic channel family.
It is an integral membrane protein that plays an important role in inhibiting neurotransmission by binding to the benzodiazepine receptor and opening an integral chloride channel.
The Gabrg1 gene is clustered with three other family members on chromosome 4.
GABAA receptors are members of the Cys-loop family of ligand-gated ion channels and, along with GABAB receptors, mediate the inhibitory effects of GABA.
Structurally, Gabrg1 proteins are pentameric, consisting of five subunits from different families.
Diseases associated with GABRG1 include Alcohol Dependence.
