Product Specific Information
For reconstitution, add 100 µL distilled water to obtain a final antibody concentration of about 1 mg/mL.
For conjugation experiments using this carrier-free antibody, perform an additional desalting step (Zeba Spin Desalting Columns, 7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).
Target Information
Lens proteins consist primarily of crystallins (about 95%), which also occur in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue.
Crystallins maintain the proper refractive index of the lens and include three major classes: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Alpha-crystallin, the largest class, consists of alpha-A and alpha-B gene products. Alpha-B crystallin functions as a molecular chaperone, preventing protein aggregation that may lead to cataract formation.
Phosphorylated states of alpha-crystallin respond to cellular stress and may play a role in protein maintenance.
Alpha-B crystallin has been linked to Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
