Target Information
SERPINA3 encodes Alpha-1 Antichymotrypsin (Alpha 1-ACT), an early-stage acute-phase plasma protein and serine protease inhibitor (serpin) that preferentially inactivates chymotrypsin, cathepsin G, and chymase.
Alpha-1-ACT is associated with amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease and aged human or monkey brains.
Regulation of serine proteases and their inhibitors is important for neuromuscular differentiation.
Prostate specific antigen (PSA), a chymotrypsin-like serine protease, is predominantly complexed with Alpha-1-ACT.
