Target Information
CD179b (preB cell receptor component) is expressed on proB and preB cells, playing a key role in signal transduction for cellular proliferation and differentiation during B cell development.
It contributes to allelic exclusion at the Ig heavy chain locus and promotes Ig light chain rearrangement.
Mutations can lead to B cell deficiency and agammaglobulinemia, an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by lack of gamma globulins or antibodies.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
