Target Information

RPC8 (POLR3H) is a DNA-dependent RNA polymerase that catalyzes transcription of DNA into RNA using ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates.
It is a specific peripheral component of RNA polymerase III, which synthesizes small RNAs such as 5S rRNA and tRNAs.
POLR3H plays a key role in sensing and limiting infection by intracellular bacteria and DNA viruses, acting as both a nuclear and cytosolic DNA sensor involved in the innate immune response.
It can detect non-self dsDNA that serves as a template for transcription into dsRNA. The resulting non-self RNA polymerase III transcripts, such as Epstein-Barr virus-encoded RNAs (EBERs), induce type I interferon and NF-κB activation through the RIG-I pathway.
