Product Specific Information

This product is diluted and in a ready-to-use formulation.
A recommended positive control tissue for this product is Hippocampus, though other positive controls may be used.

The antibody is intended for laboratory professional use in detecting the corresponding protein in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue stained using manual qualitative immunohistochemistry (IHC). It is used after the primary diagnosis of tumor by conventional histopathology.

Ubiquitin Function:
Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein essential in the ubiquitin–proteasome pathway. It participates in protein degradation and regulation of cell cycle, differentiation, stress response, and apoptosis. Ubiquitin binds covalently with pathological inclusions resistant to degradation, such as neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy bodies in Parkinson’s disease, and Pick bodies in Pick’s disease.

Usage Notes:

  • Recommended pretreatment: heat-induced or enzymatic epitope retrieval.
  • IHC staining involves sequential application of primary antibody, secondary antibody, enzyme complex, and chromogenic substrate.
  • Interpretation is performed under a light microscope.

Controls:

  • A positive tissue control must be included in every staining procedure.
  • Positive control tissues should be freshly prepared and processed similarly to patient samples.
  • Weakly positive tissues are ideal for detecting subtle changes in antibody sensitivity or reagent degradation.
  • Negative control tissues verify absence of specific staining and help identify non-specific background staining.

Target Information

Ubiquitin targets cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of polyubiquitin chains or fused with unrelated proteins such as ribosomal protein S27a. The processed protein yields free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a, a cytoplasmic component of the 40S ribosomal subunit containing C4-type zinc finger domains.
Pseudogenes of this gene exist in the genome. Other similar ubiquitin fusion proteins include ribosomal protein L40 and S30.
