Target Information
The NOTCH4 gene encodes a Type I transmembrane protein, a member of the Notch family. These proteins share structural features such as multiple EGF-like repeats in the extracellular domain and diverse domains in the intracellular region. Notch proteins regulate developmental processes by controlling cell fate decisions. NOTCH4 is cleaved in the trans-Golgi network and presented on the cell surface as a heterodimer. It functions as a receptor for membrane-bound ligands and may play roles in vascular, renal, and hepatic development. Additionally, it has been associated with susceptibility to schizophrenia in some cases.
