Target Information
AXL is a chronic myelogenous leukemia-associated oncogene also linked to colon cancer and melanoma. The AXL protein is a receptor tyrosine kinase that transduces signals from the extracellular matrix into the cytoplasm by binding growth factors such as GAS6. It plays a role in cell proliferation and apoptotic cell clearance through TAM receptor pathways. Deficiency in TAM receptors can lead to autoimmune phenotypes similar to systemic lupus erythematosus. AXL may also function as an entry receptor for filoviruses and identifies a subpopulation of human dendritic cells (Siglec 6+/Axl+). Its expression can be upregulated by TLR ligands, and soluble AXL levels may indicate inflammation or cancer progression.
