Target Information
Septin 2 is a filament-forming cytoskeletal GTPase required for normal organization of the actin cytoskeleton. It plays a role in the formation of polarized epithelial cells by maintaining polyglutamylated microtubules, facilitating vesicle transport, and regulating MAP4 binding to tubulin.
It is essential for mitotic progression, forming a scaffold at the midplane of the mitotic spindle to maintain CENPE localization at kinetochores, ensuring chromosome congression.
During anaphase, Septin 2 is involved in chromosome segregation and spindle elongation, and also contributes to ciliogenesis and collective cell movements.
