The encoded protein contains binding sites for DNA methyltransferase 1 associated protein 1 and AMP-binding sites, suggesting a role in DNA methylation. This gene is located near a folate-sensitive fragile site, and CGG-repeat expansion in its promoter region may affect transcription in individuals with this fragile site on chromosome 12.
