Target Information
Endostatin induces non-uniform responses in endothelial cell proliferation, adhesion, and migration, depending on cell type. It inhibits angiogenesis and tumor growth in vivo by promoting apoptosis in endothelial cells. Local delivery reduces tumor-associated microvessels in density, diameter, and functionality, thereby decreasing tumor cell migration and invasion. Endostatin is non-toxic and does not cause acquired drug resistance, making it a promising therapeutic target for solid tumors, including gliomas. Its anti-angiogenic activity is mediated partly by Zn²⁺ binding and elastase processing. Endostatin is expressed in elastic fibers of vessel walls and basement membranes and is released by neurons to accumulate in amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease.
