Target Information
HOXD9 is a sequence-specific transcription factor that is part of a developmental regulatory system providing cells with positional identities along the anterior-posterior axis. This gene belongs to the homeobox family, encoding transcription factors crucial in morphogenesis across multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four similar homeobox gene clusters—HOXA, HOXB, HOXC, and HOXD—located on different chromosomes, each containing 9–11 genes arranged in tandem. HOXD9 is located in the 2q31–2q37 region. Deletions involving the HOXD gene cluster have been associated with severe limb and genital abnormalities. The precise role of HOXD9 remains to be fully determined.
