LRWD1 단백질은 G1/S 전이에 필수적이며, G1기 동안 pre-replication complex(preRC)를 형성하기 위해 ORC(Origin Recognition Complex)를 크로마틴에 모집하고 안정화시킵니다.
또한, 이 단백질은 이형염색질(heterochromatin) 부위에서 DNA 및 히스톤 메틸화 억제 마크(H3K9me3, H3K27me3, H4K20me3)에 결합하여 주요 위성 반복 서열의 침묵화에 관여합니다.
