EYA4 유전자는 eyes absent (EYA) 단백질 패밀리 구성원 중 하나를 암호화하며, 단백질 인산화효소 활성을 통해 전사 활성화에 관여합니다. 이 단백질은 눈 발달 및 청각 기능 유지에 중요하며, 변이는 진행성 난청(DFNA10 locus)과 연관됩니다. 또한 DNA 손상 반응, 세포 손상, 바이러스 공격 시 DNA 복구, 세포사멸, 선천면역 조절에 관여하는 종양유전자 역할을 합니다. 결함은 확장성 심근병증 1J와도 관련이 있습니다.
