Target Information
The STX16 gene encodes a protein belonging to the syntaxin or t-SNARE (target-SNAP receptor) family. These proteins are located on cell membranes and act as targets for V-SNAREs (vesicle-SNAP receptors), enabling specific synaptic vesicle docking and fusion. A microdeletion in the chromosome 20 region containing this gene is associated with pseudohypoparathyroidism type Ib. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
