Target Information
The RAD23A gene encodes a small iron-sulfur protein that transfers electrons from NADPH through ferredoxin reductase to a terminal cytochrome P450. This oxidation/reduction system is found in steroidogenic tissues and is involved in the synthesis of bile acids and vitamin D. The expressed gene is located at chromosomal locus 11q22, with pseudogenes on chromosomes 20 and 21. The gene product is found in multiple tissues and is not tissue-specific.
