Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) acts as a transcriptional repressor that inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. It modulates ATP1A1 promoter activity depending on cDNA amount and cell type, represses E-cadherin promoters, and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) via recruitment of SMARCA4/BRG1. ZEB1 also represses BCL6 transcription in cooperation with CTBP1, positively regulates neuronal differentiation, and represses RCOR1 transcription during neurogenesis. Mutations in the gene can lead to corneal dystrophy, posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy, and Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy type 6.
