  • In direct ELISAs and Western blots, no cross-reactivity with recombinant TeNT Heavy Chain is observed.
  • Reconstitute in sterile PBS to a final concentration of 0.5 mg/mL.

Target Information

Tetanus toxin, a member of the peptidase M27 family, is produced by the anaerobic spore-forming bacterium Clostridium tetani as a single-chain polypeptide of 1315 amino acids. It is cleaved by an endogenous protease into:

  • 52 kDa light chain (TeNT-LC, 457 aa)
  • 98 kDa heavy chain (858 aa)

These chains are linked by a disulfide bridge and are non-toxic when separated.
Tetanus toxin inhibits neurotransmitter release by acting as a zinc endopeptidase that hydrolyzes the 76-Gln–Phe-77 bond of synaptobrevin-2. It binds to peripheral neural synapses, is internalized, and transported retrogradely into the spinal cord, where it interferes with neuronal communication.
