The CRM57 antibody reacts with human and baboon interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β). IL-1β is a 17 kDa factor secreted primarily by monocytes. It influences T-helper cells by inducing IL-2 secretion and receptor expression, and stimulates B cells to proliferate and synthesize immunoglobulins.

Applications Tested: Used as a detection antibody in sandwich ELISA for human IL-1β, in combination with purified CRM56 (14-7018) for capture and recombinant IL-1β (14-8018) as standard.
Recommended detection concentration range: 0.25–1 µg/mL
Include a standard curve with recombinant IL-1β from 1000 pg/mL to 8 pg/mL per ELISA plate.

Target Information

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as an inactive 31 kDa pro-form and activated via inflammasome-mediated cleavage to a 17 kDa mature protein. IL-1β is secreted through a non-classical pathway alongside caspase-1.

IL-1β signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1α. Its activity is regulated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA), which inhibits receptor binding. IL-1β plays a key role in innate immune defense by inducing other proinflammatory cytokines and triggering acute-phase responses. Elevated IL-1β levels are linked to chronic inflammatory conditions, making IL-1β neutralizing antibodies of potential therapeutic interest.
