Target Information
Temporally regulated transcription and translation of several testis-specific genes is required for the formation of mature spermatozoa.
SPANXB1 is a member of the SPANX family of cancer/testis-associated genes located on chromosome X.
SPANX genes encode testis-specific proteins localized to various subcellular compartments.
SPANXB1 maps head-to-tail with SPANXB2 and contains an additional 18 nt compared to other family members.
Although the protein has nuclear localization signals, it primarily localizes to cytoplasmic droplets of ejaculated spermatozoa, serving as a biochemical marker for sperm structure studies and spermatogenesis research.
