Target Information
Mucins (MUCs) are heavily glycosylated glycoproteins synthesized as membrane-bound or secreted proteins. They exhibit aberrant expression in various malignancies but normally play a protective role for epithelial tissues. Mucins are expressed in the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and genito-urinary tracts and may contribute to epithelium renewal, differentiation, cell adhesion, and signaling.
MUC5B is crucial for maintaining oral health and may be implicated in respiratory and oral diseases. Its expression has been studied in gastric carcinoma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
