Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, which are structurally related to MHC proteins and form heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin. CD1 proteins present lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells. Five CD1 family genes are clustered on chromosome 1 and differ in localization and lipid ligand specificity. The encoded protein localizes to late endosomes and lysosomes, requiring vesicular acidification for lipid antigen binding.
