Target Information
The soluble sulfotransferases contribute to the elimination of xenobiotics, activation of procarcinogens, and regulation of hormones by catalyzing sulfate conjugation.
Members of the SULT superfamily (SULT1, SULT2, SULT3) show substrate selectivity.
SULT1A1 (sulfotransferase family, cytosolic, 1A, phenol-preferring, member 1), also known as STP or STP1, is a 295 amino acid cytoplasmic protein functioning as a homodimer expressed in brain, liver, skin, and lung.
It catalyzes sulfate conjugation of catecholamines, phenolic drugs, and neurotransmitters, aiding in elimination of various compounds.
SULT1A1 may also activate carcinogenic N-hydroxyarylamines, suggesting a role in carcinogenesis.
