Target Information

The alpha/beta hydrolase superfamily comprises diverse members involved in important biochemical processes and related to various diseases. Despite having unrelated sequences and different catalytic activities, they share a canonical alpha/beta hydrolase fold composed of an eight-stranded parallel alpha/beta structure and a catalytic triad (histidine, acid, nucleophile).
Members of this superfamily are often drug targets for treating diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity, and blood clotting disorders.
The ABHD (alpha/beta hydrolase domain containing) gene subfamily includes 15 mostly uncharacterized members, most of which utilize a serine nucleophile forming the G-X-S-X-G nucleophile elbow. ABHD8 is a 439 amino acid protein belonging to the AB hydrolase superfamily.
