Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. CD36 mediates recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells, and is implicated in malaria pathogenesis.
It serves as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen, and mutations in CD36 cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, and diseases associated with CD36 include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
