Target Information
Spermatogenesis is a complex process regulated by extracellular and intracellular factors and cellular interactions among interstitial cells, Sertoli cells, and germ cells. In the testis, PHF7 is expressed in Sertoli cells but not germ cells. Lack of expression is associated with spermatogenic arrest at the spermatocyte stage, leading to oligospermia or azoospermia.
The PHF7 protein contains plant homeodomain (PHD) finger domains, also known as leukemia-associated protein (LAP) domains, which are implicated in transcriptional regulation. The protein localizes to the nucleus and plays a role in the transcriptional regulation of spermatogenesis. Two isoforms are encoded by transcript variants of this gene.
