Target Information
MRPL42 is a mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal protein encoded by nuclear genes, involved in mitochondrial protein synthesis.
Mitoribosomes consist of a small 28S and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition, unlike prokaryotic ribosomes.
Mammalian mitoribosomes lack the 5S rRNA found in prokaryotic ribosomes.
The MRPL42 gene product is associated with both 28S and 39S subunits, with multiple transcript variants due to alternative splicing.
Pseudogenes are located on chromosomes 4q, 6p, 6q, 7p, and 15q.
