Target Information
Osteopontin (SPP1) is an arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD)-containing glycoprotein that interacts with integrins and CD44 as major receptors. It plays key roles in bone mineralization, cell adhesion, migration, chronic inflammation, and cellular transformation. Proteolytic cleavage near the RGD sequence modulates its integrin binding properties. Thrombin-cleaved fragments are overexpressed in malignant glial tumors, providing a survival advantage and serving as substrates for plasmin and cathepsin D.
