EID3는 SMC5-SMC6 복합체의 조직 특이적 구성요소로, 상동 재조합을 통한 DNA 이중 가닥 절단 복구에 관여합니다.
이 복합체는 SMC1-SMC3 cohesin 복합체를 이중 가닥 절단 부위로 모집하여 자매 염색분체 상동 재조합을 촉진할 수 있습니다.
또한 이 복합체는 재조합을 통한 텔로미어 유지에 필요하며, shelterin 복합체(텔로솜) 구성요소의 sumoylation을 매개합니다.
