Target Information

CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor involved in regulation of T cell and B cell signaling through immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). These motifs, upon phosphorylation by associated kinases, serve as docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases. CD31 is expressed ubiquitously within the vascular compartment and mainly located at junctions between adjacent cells. The N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, important for cell-cell interactions. CD31 plays roles in integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, immune regulation, autoimmunity, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis. It is a key regulatory molecule in the vascular system.
