Target Information
ERN2 serine/threonine kinase, also known as endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 2 protein, is a human homologue of the yeast Ire1 gene product. It plays a role in multiple aspects of the ER stress response in mammalian cells. Unlike closely related proteins, this pro-apoptotic protein appears to play no role in the unfolded-protein response. Overexpression of ERN2 activates BiP and CHOP expression, leading to programmed cell death. Ern2 is suggested to be involved in several facets of the ER stress response in mammalian cells.
