This gene encodes a telomere-specific protein that is a component of the telomere nucleoprotein complex. It is present at telomeres throughout the cell cycle and functions as a telomerase inhibitor, acting in cis to limit elongation of individual chromosome ends. The protein structure includes:

- A dimerization domain near the N-terminus
- An acidic N-terminus
