Target Information

The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known regulators of programmed cell death. This protein promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their death repressor activity. Its proapoptotic activity is regulated through phosphorylation. Protein kinases AKT and MAP kinase, as well as protein phosphatase calcineurin, are involved in its regulation. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
