Target Information
RYBP is a component of a Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1-like complex, which maintains the transcriptionally repressive state of many genes, including Hox genes, throughout development. This complex acts via chromatin remodeling and histone modification and mediates monoubiquitination of histone H2A at Lys-119, resulting in heritable changes in chromatin expressibility.
RYBP plays roles in:
- X-chromosome silencing in XX females through histone H2A ubiquitination
- Regulation of TP53 target gene transcription by inhibiting TP53 ubiquitination and degradation
- Ubiquitin-mediated proteasomal degradation of proteins such as FANK1 to regulate apoptosis
- Transcriptional repression of E4TF1 activity
- Potential suppression of tumor growth and metastasis in breast cancer via down-regulation of SRRM3
