This gene encodes one of three GA-binding protein transcription factor subunits that functions as a DNA-binding subunit. It shares identity with a subunit of the nuclear respiratory factor 2 gene and is likely involved in activation of cytochrome oxidase expression and nuclear control of mitochondrial function. It also shares identity with a subunit of transcription factor E4TF1, responsible for adenovirus E4 gene expression. Due to its chromosomal localization and heterodimer formation, it may be implicated in the Down Syndrome phenotype. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
