Target Information
N-cadherin is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein that mediates calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. It plays a key role in morphogenetic movements during development and regulates cell surface adhesion through homotypic interactions. N-cadherin associates with the actin cytoskeleton via catenin proteins, and this interaction is regulated by phosphorylation of beta-catenin. The protein includes five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail, functioning during gastrulation and contributing to left-right asymmetry establishment.
