STAT3 (Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3)는 STAT 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 수용체 관련 키나아제에 의해 인산화되어 핵으로 이동 후 전사인자로 작용합니다.
STAT3는 인터페론-α, 인터페론-γ, EGF, PDGF, IL6 등에 의해 활성화되며, Tyr705의 인산화는 이합체 형성, 핵 이동, DNA 결합에 필수적입니다.
STAT3는 세포 성장, 세포사멸 등 다양한 세포 과정 조절에 중요한 역할을 하며, Rac1과 PIAS3 단백질에 의해 조절됩니다.
인간 STAT3 유전자는 염색체 17q에 위치하며, 세 가지 스플라이싱 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
