Target Information
The P2RX7 gene encodes a purinoceptor for ATP, functioning as a ligand-gated ion channel responsible for ATP-dependent lysis of macrophages by forming membrane pores permeable to large molecules.
Activation of this receptor by ATP in the cytoplasm may link cellular activity to gene expression changes.
Multiple alternatively spliced variants have been identified, most meeting nonsense-mediated decay criteria.
