Target Information
GTP-binding proteins are GTPases that function as molecular switches toggling between active (GTP-bound) and inactive (GDP-bound) states. The active form triggers intracellular signaling events. When an extracellular ligand binds to a G-protein-linked receptor, the receptor activates trimeric G proteins by promoting GDP-GTP exchange. The signal remains active until GTP is hydrolyzed back to GDP, allowing the protein to propagate cellular messages before deactivation.
