Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytosolic regulatory component of the superoxide-producing phagocyte NADPH-oxidase, a multicomponent enzyme system important for host defense. It is preferentially expressed in myeloid lineage cells and interacts with NCF2/p67-phox and NCF1/p47-phox to form a complex that activates flavocytochrome b upon cell stimulation. The PX domain binds phospholipid products of PI(3) kinase, suggesting a role in PI(3) kinase-mediated signaling. Phosphorylation negatively regulates enzyme activity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been observed.
