Target Information
The LIM homeobox transcription factor 1 (LMX1A) belongs to the LIM-homeodomain family, known for roles in developmental pattern formation. LMX1A binds an A/T-rich sequence and acts as a transcriptional activator in the nucleus, regulating the insulin gene promoter. During embryonic development, LMX1A is expressed along the neuraxis and contributes to the formation of the vertebral roof plate. It is essential for the differentiation of dopamine neurons, while its homolog LMX1B supports their development and survival. LMX1A may serve as a biomarker or risk factor in tumor aggressiveness.
