Target Information
This gene encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor belonging to the PAS (PER, ARNT, SIM) superfamily. PAS proteins play crucial roles in adaptation to low oxygen levels, exposure to environmental pollutants, and circadian rhythm regulation.
ARNTL2 forms transcriptionally active heterodimers with CLOCK, MOP4, and hypoxia-inducible factors such as HIF1α. It is coexpressed in brain regions including the thalamus, hypothalamus, and amygdala.
Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
